LEICESTER star Kyle Howarth is keen to do some racing before the end of the season – after having shoulder surgery.
Howarth, a key part of the Watling JCB Lions’ 2020 plans, went under the knife a fortnight ago to correct a shoulder problem from last season.
And he says if fans are allowed back in venues in October, as hinted by the government previously, he wants to ride – particularly if a British Final can be arranged.
He said: “The recovery time from the operation is between eight and 10 weeks, and next week I’ll be in the gym starting my fitness work again.
“I want to be back on a bike in mid-late September so if there are a few meetings in October I can be at the start line ready to race.
“I know I’ve done the right thing and I’ll be back strong.”
Howarth revealed the shoulder dislocated twice when doing some manual work.
He said: “I’ve been doing some manual work with no racing and I must have aggravated the shoulder I damaged at Eastbourne last year.
“It actually dislocated a few times so I decided to go for the surgery a fortnight ago. I had to go private because of the waiting list for operations right now.
“The surgery was latarjet shoulder surgery. The crazy thing is I never had any problems during the winter but then it started dislocating. I knew if I could get it done I would be 100 per cent fit and raring to go for next season.”
